Olfactory Delight ~ UBC 15

For the past four to five months we have been enduring the merciless heat of the sun. When he decides to move to other parts of the earth, the heat accumulated in the soil is radiated. We have no choice but to always switch on the fans and air conditioners. People can be seen either in crisp cottons or meagerly clad. Everyone could be seen fanning themselves while out in the open, be it the park, the bus station, streets or anywhere else.

The surprise summer rain when the heat is at its peak brings a tremendous relief. Caught unawares men, women and children are seen running helter skelter for cover. Some take the opportunity to drench themselves in the rain amidst admonitions from the elders. A heavy rain ensues bringing along with it the smell of the soil and dust.

Yes, I love the petrichor. The pleasant aroma drifts through the air into one’s nostrils. The musky smell fills the air and lifts up one’s spirits. The parched earth seems to have been quenched like my olfactory senses. A rainbow smiles across the blue sky. Is my smile as big too, having been wonderfully treated to the petrichor?

This is my take on The Daily Prompt :

Nosey Delights

From the yeasty warmth of freshly baked bread to the clean, summery haze of lavender flowers, we all have favorite smells we find particularly comforting. What’s yours?
